IT-oLogy Charlotte
Why IT-oLogy Charlotte?
“Charlotte is the 6th hottest city for the availability of IT jobs” according to recent research provided in late January by Modis; San Francisco is number one and Raleigh nine.
Yes, the demand for IT talent is abundant in our Charlotte region; yet, did you know there is a supply shortage! This is a surprise to many!
IT-oLogy came to Charlotte through the efforts of a grassroots Charlotte IT talent task force made up of representatives of large and small businesses, IT, entrepreneurial and economic development organizations, and educational institutions (K12 – higher education) who joined forces and identified 3 initial initiatives to begin addressing this IT talent challenge as: 1) attracting and retaining IT professionals; working with businesses/ academic institutions on educating, 2) training and retraining of professionals and offering joint professional development opportunities and 3) engage with academic institutions (K-20) by encouraging interest in IT professions and offering experiential learning opportunities to ready the future IT talent for work. Dan Roselli, Packard Place, introduced us to IT-oLogy, a four year old non-profit collaboration with mission and goals matching those of Charlotte. The rest is history.
So, what’s up for IT-oLogy Charlotte after the December launch to an enthusiastic audience of about 300? First, we are connecting and engaging Charlotte’s vibrant IT ecosystem. Collectively, we are working together to address the IT talent challenge through both short and long term initiatives.
